The jump from a career in one industry to a different one is not easy. There is no manual or guidebook on entering a new field, much less starting your own company. But Joel from Palatine, Illinois made the leap from having no experience in house painting, to starting his own business.

As a former software salesman, Joel had no previous background or skills required for home painting or running a company. It was with Main Street that he learned the technical skills and procedures necessary to perform jobs and manage his operation.

One of the challenges new business owners face is balancing strategic operations like acquiring customers while simultaneously working the job. For Joel, however, Main Street trained him from the ground up in house painting and helped him establish efficient procedures to run his operation.

Among the tools he is equipped with, is a lead source platform that enables Joel to find new customers. This way it’s easy for him to see what prospects he can go after.

Another tool is the customer relationship manager (CRM). This platform makes it easy for him to communicate with customers, follow up with leads, and provide excellent customer service from beginning to end.

“Main Street gives our business an organized way to operate,” Joel said. He believes what makes Main Street special is its commitment to helping small companies like his get trained, organized, and scale quickly.

Looking back, he is surprised at the ground he’s covered since he launched his business with Main Street. Seeing his progress from being a newcomer into the industry to now having booked several jobs.

The growth continues for Joel, as he is thinking ahead on how to scale his company. These past few months he’s laid the foundational groundwork with house painting, and is now seeing future growth opportunities of expanding his company into other services.
